This tour includes four nights in wilderness hides, which offer the opportunity to observe and photograph bears, wolves, wolverines etc. in their natural habitat, safely in the presence of a trained guide. You will also spend one day on a local husky farm where you get familiar with the life of these wonderful dogs and their host.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival 

Arrival to Kajaani airport and transfer towards Russian border to spend the night at the Tervahovi cabin in Kuhmo operated by a husky company. Dinner and overnight. 

Day 2: Husky programme at Routa husky farm and wildlife watching night 

Breakfast at the cabin followed by day with huskies. The programme of the day depends on the season and weather conditions. Options include a ride with husky sledge, skiing with huskies, husky trekking (walking with a husky tied with a leash on a special belt around your waist) or daily duties on the husky farm. During the visit you will learn also what life with huskies is like. 

After activities transfer to the Kuikka lodge for the wildlife programme. Information about the exciting photography night that will be spent in a hide in the middle of the wilderness. Early dinner at the lodge and departure to the hide. From the hide it is possible to photograph and observe bears safely, visiting the feeding place next to the hide. And not only bears, but also wolves, wolverines and various species of birds can be seen on a regular basis. Return to Kuikka lodge in the morning. 

Day 3: Day at Kuikka lodge and another wilderness night 

Time for breakfast, shower, rest and talks about wildlife programmes. Another wildlife watching and photographing night at the hide after early dinner. Return to Kuikka lodge in the morning. 

Day 4: Boreal Wildlife Centre and a wilderness night 

Breakfast, shower and some rest. Then transfer to Boreal Wildlife Centre situated in Viiksimo, Kuhmo. Again, early dinner and departure to the hide which is situated in the border zone area of Finland and Russia. A special license is required to move in the peaceful area which is a habitat for many wild animals. During the night you have a good chance to see bears but also wolves, wolverines and golden eagles may visit the feeding place. Return to Boreal Wildlife Centre in the morning.  

Day 5: Day at Boreal Wildlife Centre and the last wilderness night 

Breakfast and time for some rest. In the afternoon departure for the last night at the hide. 

Day 6: Return 

Breakfast and check-out from the accommodation. Transfer to Kajaani airport for the flight to Helsinki.
